Malygos

Method: Avoid Enrage

Must... avoid... enrage... timer!

Roles

Main Tank

Phase 1

The main tank will grab Malygos when he lands and face him away from the raid. Give the main tank a few seconds to establish aggro before engaging with DPS. Malygos will hit anyone in front of him with Arcane Breath. The tank should be aware of the Power Spark, and move Malygos away from the spark without turning him towards the raid. A new spark will be summoned after each Vortex, but be aware of any sparks still alive during the Vortex (they will pause and then increase their speed towards Malygos after the Vortex is over).

Phase 2

Get the raid to stack up on you and move inside an anti-magic shield. Nexus Lords will randomly spawn and attack the raid and should be picked up immediately. Mark a Nexus Lord with a raid icon so that the DPS can focus attacks on it.

Phase 3

Button 1 (Flame Spike) builds combo points. When five combo points are reached, use button 2 (Engulf in Flames) to put a DoT on Malygos. Stack EiF as often as you can. Avoid the lightning fields by moving the raid to the left or right. Use button 5 (Flame Shield) if Surge is cast on you.

Off-Tank

None!

Healers

Phase 1

The healers should stand behind Malygos, alongside the DPS. They should pay special attention to the tank when Arcane Breath occurs as it will hit the tank with about 20K damage. Prior to the raid getting tossed into the Vortex, healers should try and top everyone off.

Phase 2

Stack up on the tank with the rest of the raid. Move with the raid from anti-magic shell to anti-magic shell. This phase is healing-intensive, especially during the Arcane Pulse.

Phase 3

Button 3 (Revivify) allows you to heal a party member's drake, but you must target the drake that needs heals. Revivify builds combo points (just like button 1, Flame Spike). Button 4 (Life Burst) uses the combo points built up from Revivify and/or Flame Spike, and produces and AE heal. Use button 5 (Flame Shield) if Surge is cast on you.

DPS

Phase 1

DPS should stand directly behind Malygos as he does not have a tail-swipe ability. When tossed into the Vortex, instant cast/attack abilities against Malygos are allowed. During the first phase, Power Sparks will fly in from one of four directions. These sparks should be taken down quickly, preferably where the melee DPS can stand on top of the spark. It is crucial that all DPS stand in at least one spark, although it is optimal if you can get sparks down in the same place as the damage bonus will stack.

Death Knights

Power Sparks can be CC'd, which includes Death Grip from Death Knights. This is useful because you can control where you want the spark to be. A DK can death grip the spark, and the spark can then be stunned or rooted. The trick is to get all the sparks down in the same spot so the DPS buff stacks.

Phase 2

Stack up on the tank on top of the sparks. Ranged DPS should continue to attack Malygos until the first anti-magic shell appears. Move under the shell when it does. The tank will mark a Nexus Lord with a raid icon. All DPS should focus on this target until it's down. As each Nexus Lord dies, their hover disc becomes available. Each of the melee DPS should stand on their own disc, fly in the air, and begin attacking Scions. After all the Nexus Lords and Scions die, phase 3 begins.

Primary Abilities

Arcane Breath

Frontal spell dealing around 20K damage.

Vortex

Causes the raid to spin around the platform, constantly dealing Arcane damage to them.

Power Spark

Spawned throughout the fight and slowly shift towards Malygos. Once they reach him, they buff him with Power Spark, increasing the damage output by 50% for 10 seconds, stacking multiplicatively. If killed, they instead grant players in proximity the same buff, Power Spark, which especially is a great buff for melee players close to Malygos.

Surge of Power

Inflicts 5,000 Arcane damage to nearby allies per second, for 5 seconds. Those targeted receive a raid warning.
