Overview

Alea Iacta Est (AIE) is a casual Horde Guild that was started by the creators/fans/friends of The Instance/ELR/Buzz out Loud/Jawbone Radio/Mahalo Daily on the Earthen Ring (RP)-US Realm of World of Warcraft.

AIE is a very casual guild. We are not a strict raiding guild nor a strict PvP guild nor a strict role-playing guild (although we may have groups of people in the guild who pursue such interests). We are a guild that believes that players of World of Warcraft should be given the opportunity to experience multiple aspects of game play and that a lack of experience does not imply a lack of aptitude.

Every voice in AIE is equal, and we enjoy open conversation as long as you do not belittle your fellow members. If you have any ideas/suggestions/comments/etc, please submit them to the officers at any time.

As a member of AIE with the tag over your character’s head, you represent AIE as a whole and are expected to act accordingly. You may not get along with everybody in the guild, but you are expected to be polite and civil to your fellow guildmates.

The guild policy will be published on the Guild Policy page. Ignorantia legis neminem excusat, ignorance of the law excuses no one. Every member is expected to be familiar with the guild policies and abide by them.

Applying For Admission

Membership is available to all listeners of the above mentioned podcasts and to the population of Earthen Ring. All prospective players must have leveled their characters to the required minimum level and MUST file an application.

Once processed an approved e-mail will be sent to validate your e-mail address. Please click on the link provided in the e-mail and contact a guild officer in-game to be invited into the guild as a Pleb.

Guild Ranks

General Membership

Pleb

After having a membership application approved and meeting class level requirements for the character, a member is invited and joins as a Pleb. This is a probationary rank with limited privileges. During this time, the Pleb is expected to become familiar with the guild polices and to register in the official guild forums. Within two (2) to twelve (12) weeks of joining, the Pleb’s membership status will be reviewed and the member will be either promoted to Cohort or removed from the guild.

Cohort

Cohort is the highest non-officer rank in AIE. A Cohort is considered a member in good standing and carries with it the full privilege and responsibility of AIE membership.

Silenced Pleb / Silenced Cohort

Silenced Pleb and Silenced Cohort are ranks that have no ability to speak in guild chat. This rank is used when a member is causing a problem that requires restriction but does not warrant an immediate removal from the guild. Plebs are "promoted" to Silenced Pleb, and Cohorts are "demoted" to Silenced Cohort, based on the where the rankings fall in Blizzard's system. An officer will generally contact a member so restricted via whisper to sort out the issue.

Officer Corps

Centurion

Centurions assist with bringing in new members and resolving conflicts. The Centurion rank had its origins in PvP and the Centurion Code, but has since been expanded to become an officer rank and perform a mentoring function within the guild.

Centurions are only selected through nomination by current Centurions or other officers. The Centurion rank is not the result of general member progression or solicitation by members.

To promote a guild member to the rank of Centurion, the existing Centurions follow this process.

  1. One Centurion nominates the candidate.
  2. Another Centurion seconds the nomination.
  3. Voting commences and lasts for a 14 day period. All Centurions and other guild officers in good standing may vote. Quorum is 50% of the Centurion population (rounding down if the population is an odd number). Once quorum is met, a candidate must get a two thirds (2/3) majority of “yea” votes. An abstention counts towards quorum but is not counted as a vote.
  4. If the candidate is accepted by vote, a recommendation is sent to the Caesar, Imperators, and Praetorians recommending the candidate for promotion.

The vote is only a means to achieve consensus among the Centurions. The upper-tier officers make the final decision about all promotions, and may promote a member at any time.

Praetorian

Praetorians have the same responsibilities as Centurions, but are also responsible for executing Centurion promotions, handling escalations of guild policy issues, and managing guild resources.

Imperator

This rank consists of guild founders.

Caesar

Our leader prefers warm sweet milk for his baths.

Role Playing

Roleplaying is appreciated and encouraged, but not a requirement. Guild policies apply to both in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) activities.

In guild chat, it is recommended that you make it clear whether your comments are IC or OOC. This can be done with quotes, parenthesis, or leading slashes to indicate IC comments. Unless it is clear that a comment is IC, it is assumed to be OOC.

Raiding

Alea Iacta Est is by no means a “Raiding Guild”. Raiding here will be done on a friendly and amicable basis, and those that raid do not have any preferential status over those that concentrate on other in game pursuits.

The guild does not officially organize or designate raid teams or leaders so if you wish to participate in raids please contact those members who have taken it upon themselves to organize teams or form a team yourself. Remember that you are still expected to treat every member in your raid group with respect and to conduct yourself in a civil manner.

PvP

Like raiding, we are not a hardcore PvP guild. Most members of AIE PvP in small, impromptu groups. However, some members have formed arena teams and organized battleground groups. Occasionally, as a guild, we coordinate World PvP events as well as PvP Initiation events in order to jump-start PvP among those who may have not experienced it yet. You may PvP as you wish, whether it be casual or hardcore.
