Charter and Polices have same info

It appears that the Charter has a lot of info in it that is redundant with what is in the Policies and Responsibilities. I would think that the Charter could be shortened (the lengthy section 3 could be removed, imho) while the Policies and Responsibilities would remain about the same (basically have the Charter outline why AIE was founded and have the Policies detail all the other stuff). This would serve two purposes:

  1. it would save time for everyone, especially reading time by prospective members, and
  2. it would minimize the possibility of the Charter and the Policies contradicting if someone changes one and not the other.

Now I am not an officer but I think officers would appreciate this. Whether any of them read this discussion page is another matter, heh. --Formic 14:48, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

There's actually not that much redundancy in section three aside from the application and promotion details for Plebs. The lengthy part of section three is the Centurion voting process, which belongs in the charter since it is a core component of the guild structure. We might want to remove some of the details of the Pleb period duration from the charter at some point, but that isn't causing much of a problem since we haven't changed the values since we first chose them in the Summer of 2007. I'll probably put together a laundry list of cosmetic changes for the officers to vote on at some point in the not-too-distant future.
