Welcome to the Expedition phase of Alea Iacta Est's journey into Lord of the Rings Online.
 
This doc will provide step by step instructions on how to create a LOTRO account, download the game, and get started.
 
Abovan's Note:  Need to make a 2nd Steam account document how you get the game and make an account over Steam.
 
== Step 1: Create Your LOTRO Account ==
 
The first step is to log on to http://www.lotro.com and create an account.
 
You will see a screen such as below.

Enter in the data on the column on the right, check the box that you agree to the legal documents, and then click the "Sign Up Today" button.
 
 
== Step 2: Download the Game ==
 
 
Your next screen will look like this.

Select the option "Download from Turbine" since the Fileplanet service is in the process of being shutdown.
 
At this point, the game installer will download.  Go ahead and install this program, and the game will then update itself to the latest version.
 
When the game is updated, you will be able to login.
 
 
== Step 3: Log Into LOTRO ==

Enter your login credentials you created in step 1.  Press "Log In" to continue.
 
You will be presented with the account type page.

Select your account type and press "Next".  We will go over the account types in a later tutorial.
 
Now we will be presented with the server selection screen.  Here, you will be able to select which server you wish to play on.  For AIE, we will be playing on the Landroval (EN-RE) server.  The EN-RE means, that it is an English, Role-playing Encouraged server.  This is also one of the more populated servers in LOTRO.
 
Select Landroval and then click on Play to start the game.
 
After some intro FMV's and some other loading screens, you will see your first character creation screen.
 
== Step 4: Create a Character ==

Here, you can roll up your first toon.  We will go into detail later, but for now, here's a quick rundown.
 
Races do provide small bonuses, but nothing that a well played character can overcome.
 
Burglar - DPS, debuffer, stealth class.
Captain - Melee DPS, Off Heals, Pet Class.
Champion - Melee DPS
Guardian - Tank
Hunter - Ranged DPS
Lore-Master - Ranged DPS, Debuffer, Caster, Healer Pet Class
Minstrel - Healer
 
(Requires purchase)
Rune-keeper - Ranged DPS and Healer, Runes (Totems)
Warden - Combo Based Tank
 
After selecting your class and race, you will be able to determine how your character looks, and their name.
 
After creation, you will be able to press "Enter Middle Earth" to enter the game.
