To Start Out

Download and install the game (Rift is free to play!) from the official website or Steam

Think about if you want to throw some money Trion'a way and buy some upgrades (bag slots ingame items) or a patron pass (subscription) for extra perks. Check out their store

Learn about Rift's dynamic calling system on the official Rift Site or at the Rift wiki

Check out the how to join AIE Rift proper by reading the sticky in the Forums

Consider getting the Mobile Authenticator App to protect your account.

The current level cap is 60 (Trion has hinted the next major update V3.0 will bring the game to level 65).

Get Psyched

Rift has a Mentoring System. This means that you can scale down your charater to play with lower level friends (and still get XP with them!).

Rift has Instant Adventures (AI for short). It's a simple click to instantly join a raid that does fast paced quests throughout Telara. Leave whenever you want, great when you only a few minutes to play.

Rift has... well... Rifts all over the place! These are dynamic openings openings of different planar types that bring with them waves of baddies to fight. They are tons of fun and harder Rifts can be done in groups for special loot.

Rift has Zone events. You might be out questing and all the sudden a horrifying god-like voice start talking to everyone in the zone. Objectives will pop up that you can help the zone complete.

Rift has Dungeons. Like most every other MMORPG. There is a LFG tool that works pretty well.

Rift has Chronicles. These are 1 or 2 player dungeons with short story lines. (these start to be come available as you reach level 50)

Rift has Raids (20 man) and Slivers (10 man). Like other MMOs this is when PVE gets hardcore :)

Rift has PVP of all different varieties!

Rift has Dimensions. These are dedicated housing like areas that you can decorate and share with others. Some places to visit:

  • We have a guild house! Perhaps Nomads will just have to leave their mark.
  • Take some time to visit other guildie houses. There is a voting system, so if you like what they've done, vote for them.

Rift has Planar Attunement once you hit 50. Think of it like a separate leveling path that lets you choose the stats you want increased.

Rift has sparkles, AKA Artifacts. These are found all over the world hidden in hard to find (or sometimes lying right there in front of you) places. Completing artifact collections yield rewards. This is great for the adventurer who likes to climb remote hard to reach mountains to see whats up there, many times a rare artifact!

Rift has hidden Puzzles and Cairns (ie free loot in hard to reach places): Here is a great guide

Seriously this game has a lot to do and has pioneered a lot of systems adapted by other games.

Nerd out

Get the Mobile App (not to be confused with the authenticator app). Key features include joining guild chat (even seeing history when you are not there), and a simple scratch off game that gives you in game items. I suggest planar invasion game which gets you important planar currency which works well with leveling.

Rift off the Record is decent Rift podcast which sometimes has Trion employees on (they are a super cool developer group, big into the community participation!)

Rift Junkies is a a great source to keep up to date on Rift news.

It's possible to hop across shards (servers) in Rift. Players have set up specific channels to announce cool fun events on each shard. Generally there are 2 of these channels per shard. To join:

/join crossevents@<shardname>

/join crossraids@<shardname>
