Warrior: Often referred to as “tanks”, these guys main job is about being big, beefy and most of all, capable of taking on more damage than anyone else. Warriors are the only people who can use any armor or weapon that exists in the game, save for wands, and use them better than anyone else thanks to their special skills and talents, save for hunters which can use ranged weapons even better than them. If you like Conan movies, to feel bigger and stronger than anyone else, this is the class for you.
Hunter: Hunters are people who specialize in fighting with ranged weapons. They can use any ranged weapon in the game, save for wands, and they use them the most effectively because they have many talents and skills that go in tandem (like multi-shots you see in a Robin Hood movie). Guns, Bows and Crossbows are the weapons of choice for the hunter. Most importantly though, they also get to train, feed and name a pet that will tag along with him during his journeys to help him fight his enemies. You can tame any beast that exists in the game for your own and keep him as long as you want. If you like the stereotypical “archer” type of hero, or if you like playing most of the game solo, hunters are for you.
Mage: Wielders of arcane and elemental magics, the best way to describe a mage is to compare him to a glass canon. Their magics are very powerful and destructive, probably more than anyone else in the game, but the down side is that they cannot wear armor, in fact they only wear cloth and have low stamina to boot. Mages like to fight far away from their enemies as they hurl bolts of fire, ice or arcane magic. They also have special “area of effect” attacks that will hit many enemies within a certain area, giving them a formidable advantage when facing a large group of attackers. If you like the Gandalf type, or like taking gambles and get big damage payoffs in exchange of taking risks, this is the class for you.
Warlock: Brothers to the mages, warlocks play the damage game a bit differently. Instead of hitting and enemy directly and seeing a quick effect, warlocks use curses and afflictions to give damage over time to their enemies. In other words, they don’t kill their enemies out right, they weaken them to a point where they will eventually die. Yes, they are what you could call “evil” mages, because they take their powers from demonic energies. In fact, they can even summon demons to help them for various types of tasks. Some demons can be used to control people and making them stop fighting, others can be used for more damage, others can be used like warriors to help absorb damage, etc. In fact, they can even banish enemies which are elemental beings or demons, taking them out of the equating during a difficult fight If you are the type of person who thinks it’s fun to put curses on others or to use your own life energy to help with certain utilities, this is the class for you.
Priest: Another class that can only wear cloth, these people are masters at healing others or at using dark magics to inflict pain to others. It all depends on which way you want to go really (holy or shadow?). Priests have many interesting abilities beyond the simple healing, for instance they are capable of mind controlling about any enemy they encounter to help them for a short period of time, they also show great powers against undead creatures. If you like being the backbone of any successful team by being the one responsible for keeping everyone alive and kicking, this is the job for you.
Paladins: This is what we call a hybrid class, in the sense that they are good with many jobs but master of none. In the paladin’s case, we are talking about incorporating the jobs of a priest and warrior They are portrayed as knights in shining armor, but they can be best explained as being a support class, or better yet, someone that’s there to help out their friends. Paladins boasts many abilities, one of the most important is to grand “blessings” on their friends which will help them in combat. They even have an aura that will benefit everyone that are around them. Paladins are great healers which can also sport the heaviest of armors, making them excellent combat medics for starters. They can assist tanks just as well, especially with the right kind of talents. Paladins are not great damage dealers, but they trade that off for having the best survivability factor in the whole game, for they are capable of using magical shields that make them impervious to ANY KIND OF DAMAGE in the game (though they cannot fight back while using them). If you like the idea of playing a selfless knight in shining armor that’s there to save other people, this is the class for you.
Rogue: A fascinating class which is unique in its own right. Rogues are all about playing dirty. They have the ability to cloak themselves from anyone’s view, making them the perfect people to scout out ahead safely in dungeons or other places that no one else could ever think of going. They have many practical abilities like opening locked doors where most others would normally need a hard earned key. But most of all, they are very agile fighters, producing some of the best damage in the game after mages. They can even do more attacks when they fight in their enemies back by doing things like “back stabs” and the like. They also use a unique combo system: the more special attacks they manage to pull off, the more “combo points” they accumulate, which can be used with finishing moves that become more powerful with each accumulated point. Rogues can’t use heavy armor, but they make up for it by being nimble and evasive in combat. If you like being a sneaky bastard that goes anywhere he wants and finish many quests in a unique way, or if you like to fight with two weapons (duel wielding), this is the class for you.
Druid: Another hybrid class, but with a twist. Druids are masters of nature, and thus can shape shift into different animal forms, granting them special abilities under the said forms. In bear form, they can become effective tanks. In cat form, they can become effective rogues. Other forms include the sea lion which lets them breath under water, the leopard which let’s them move about in the world a at a very quick speed, and later on the crow which let’s them fly around in the air, avoiding land obstacles. They cannot mix and match their abilities though, so you have to limit yourself to what your form allows you to do. In humanoid form, they can also use very good healing powers, even raise people from the dead while in combat. If you like being a jack of all trades and like the idea of being a shape shifter (like a werewolf), this is the class for you.
Shamans: The last of the hybrid classes, shamans resemble the paladin in some respects, except they are more tribal in nature, are limited to less heavy armor but in exchange they can output much more damage. They help out their friends by laing down totems which grant people special benefits as long as they stay close to them. Shamans have many different interesting powers that make them quite fun to play, like a ghost wolf form that lets them travel the world a bit faster than most people for instance. If you like the “tribal healer” who can also pack a punch, this is the class for you.
Soloing: Hunters and Warlocks because their pets, when used effectively, can almost count as another player. They also have very good damage dealing capabilities, which gives them everything they need to kill most enemies they will encounter..
Leveling quickly: NOT a Paladin ;) Although it’s hard to die thanks to all their abilities, hit points and armor, they tend to “grind” slowly because of their lack of damage dealing abilities. They might survive about everything you will throw at them, but it’s going to take some time before they finish killing anything. Hint: A mage can kill something 5 times faster than a paladin but may also be killed 5 times faster as well.
Primary damage dealing (also known as DPS): Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Hunter,
Healing: Often sought out for their abilities to keep the team alive in dangerous situations and instances. Priests. To a slightly lesser degree: Shamans, Druids, Paladins
Tanking: Those that can take hits for the rest of the team. Warrior To a slightly lesser degree: Druids, Paladins
Jack of All Trades: Paladin, Shaman, Druid; These classes can heal, tank, AND do damage but not quite as well as a more specific class. Ex: A Pally can tank because of his high armor but can’t hold aggro as well as a warrior. A druid can DPS in cat form but not as well as a rogue. A resto shaman can heal but not as well as a holy priest. These classes can become stronger in one area by using their talent points accordingly.
